Abstract

The problem of the unstable atlanto-axial joint and its treatment usually stimulates lively discussion by orthopaedic surgeons.
There is much differences of opinion not only about the indication for stabilization but also about the necessity for including the occiput in fusion.
This brief review will discuss the major view on atlanto-axial fracture and dislocation, especially those being on treatment.
